CareScout 2025 Cost of Care Survey, Tennessee results (released March 2, 2026). Monthly, hourly and daily figures are our arithmetic from CareScout's published annual medians (annual / 12; home care annual / 2,288 hours; adult day annual / 260 days; nursing home annual / 365). CareScout collects rates by metro area but its Tennessee release publishes statewide medians only, and it does not survey memory care as a separate category.
Tennessee ranks 34th among states for assisted living cost in that release, which makes it one of the less expensive states. Within the Memphis area, quotes vary with apartment size, the level of care a resident is assessed at, and whether medication administration is billed separately. Ask for the base rent, each care-level charge and the most recent annual increase in writing; Tennessee requires 30 days' notice before any fee change.
What does a nursing home cost in Tennessee?
Tennessee's 2025 median is $113,150 a year for a semi-private nursing home room (about $310 a day, or $9,429 a month) and $120,450 for a private room (about $330 a day), according to CareScout.
Most long-term nursing home residents in Tennessee eventually rely on TennCare CHOICES Group 1, which pays the nursing home after the resident contributes most of their income as patient liability, keeping a $50 monthly personal needs allowance. Medicare pays only for short skilled stays after a qualifying hospital admission. See TennCare CHOICES and what Medicare pays.
What does home care cost in the Memphis area?
CareScout's 2025 Tennessee median for a non-medical home care worker is $70,928 a year for 44 hours a week, which works out to about $31 an hour or $5,911 a month; adult day health care runs about $20,800 a year for five days a week, roughly $80 a day.
Hourly cost is why home care is inexpensive for a few hours a week and expensive for full days. At 44 hours a week, home care already costs more than the state's assisted living median, and overnight or round-the-clock coverage multiplies it. See the home care vs. assisted living math.
Is there a published cost for memory care in Memphis?
No. CareScout does not survey memory care as a separate category, and no state agency publishes a memory care median for Tennessee or Memphis, so any figure you see online is an estimate, not a survey result.
In practice, secured-unit care in an ACLF is priced above the same building's standard assisted living rate. Ask each facility with secured beds for a written quote at your parent's assessed level and for the history of rate increases. Our memory care directory shows which Memphis-area buildings report secured beds to the state.
