Why is assisted living concentrated in East Memphis?

East Memphis & the Poplar Corridor holds the largest share of the city's licensed ACLFs because that is where most purpose-built assisted living was developed, close to Baptist Memorial and Saint Francis hospitals, while Midtown, Whitehaven and South Memphis rely more on nursing homes and small residences.

For a parent who lives in South or North Memphis, that can mean choosing between a nursing home close to home and assisted living farther east. Homes for the aged, Tennessee's small non-medical license, fill part of the gap; see the full roster.

Are there assisted living options in the suburbs around Memphis?
