Collierville and Bartlett each have several licensed assisted-care living facilities, most with secured memory care units, and Germantown adds a continuing-care campus. Compare by beds, secured beds, survey dates and disciplinary records, then by distance from the family.
Three suburbs, three different markets
Families who live east of Memphis often start their search in Germantown, Collierville or Bartlett because that is where they live or where a son or daughter lives. Each suburb has its own hospital or is close to one: Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown and Baptist Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital in Germantown, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville, and Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett. Each also has a distinct set of licensed assisted-care living facilities.
| City | Licensed ACLFs | Licensed beds | With secured units | Secured beds | HFC actions on record |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Germantown | 5 | 388 | 3 | 104 | 7 |
| Collierville | 5 | 429 | 4 | 115 | 5 |
| Bartlett | 4 | 403 | 2 | 81 | 5 |
| Arlington & Lakeland | 1 | 114 | 1 | 36 | 0 |
Counts come from the Health Facilities Commission's bed report and facility listings and include only facilities with that city as their postal address. Several buildings with “Germantown” in their names have Memphis addresses just outside the city and appear on our East Memphis and Southeast Memphis pages.
Germantown
Germantown's licensed assisted living is a mix of mid-size buildings and a continuing-care campus that holds both an ACLF and a nursing home license, which can make a later move to nursing care a matter of changing buildings rather than towns. One Germantown ACLF is licensed entirely as a secured residence. Check each one's listed survey date and actions on its facility page.
Collierville
Collierville has one of the larger clusters of licensed ACLFs outside Memphis, from a small 23-bed residence to buildings of more than 100 beds, and most report secured memory care beds. Families from Fayette County often compare Collierville with Somerville because of the shorter drive to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville.
Bartlett
Bartlett's licensed assisted living includes large buildings and an ACLF licensed entirely as a secured Alzheimer's residence, and the city has three nursing homes, among them long-standing faith-based and nonprofit homes. Several Memphis-addressed facilities in the 38134 and 38135 ZIP codes sit just across the city line and are worth comparing too.
How to choose among them
Start with needs: if memory care may be needed within a few years, favor a building with secured beds on the state's bed report, so a later move stays on one campus. Then check records: the listed survey date, any disciplinary actions and the orders behind them. Finally, weigh distance from the people who will visit most, which matters more over time than any amenity. Tennessee's 2025 assisted living median is about $5,595 a month statewide; suburban quotes vary, so get each one in writing at your parent's assessed care level.
Looking beyond the city limits
Postal addresses do not follow city limits neatly. Some facilities with suburban names carry Memphis addresses, and Cordova, which is part of the City of Memphis, sits between Bartlett and Germantown with its own cluster of licensed assisted living, a small home for the aged and several nursing homes. Arlington and Lakeland, farther northeast, have only limited licensed care inside their own limits, so families there usually compare Bartlett and Cordova options.
Draw the circle by drive time from the family members who will visit most, then list every licensed facility inside it, wherever its address says it is.
What to ask every suburban facility
Ask which license covers the apartment, how many beds the building is licensed for, and whether it reports secured beds; what the all-in monthly cost will be at your parent's assessed care level; how many staff are awake overnight and who administers medications; whether the facility participates in TennCare CHOICES if savings may run low; and what would trigger a move-out. Then compare the answers with the state's record, which our facility pages show for every licensed ACLF in each city.
Costs and payment in the suburbs
No suburb-level cost median is published for the Memphis area. CareScout's 2025 Tennessee median of about $5,595 a month for assisted living is the only published benchmark; quotes in Germantown, Collierville and Bartlett may run above or below it depending on apartment size and care level. Secured memory care units cost more, and no memory care median exists.
Ask every facility whether it participates in TennCare CHOICES. Suburban buildings vary widely on this point, and for a family whose savings may run low in a few years, it can decide whether a parent can stay put. VA Aid and Attendance and long-term care insurance are the other common supports.
